Edmonton, Alberta (June 14th, 2010)

ALBERTA GOVERNMENT HOSTS AMBASSADOR BAHAH FOR OFFICIAL VISIT

On Monday, June 14th His Excellency Khaled Bahah was met by the Deputy Chief of Protocol for Alberta, Mr. Norm Davies and accompanied to Commerce Place, Edmonton where members of the Alberta Government Group presented the Ambassador with an impressive statistical report on the Province of Alberta and an overview of its important trade and other expanding socio-economic relationships with Yemen.

Visiting the Alberta Legislature Building he enjoyed courtesy calls with the Mr. Cal Dallas, the Parliamentary Assistant for the Environment and Mr. Wayne Cao, the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. This was followed by a meeting with the very distinguished Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, The Honourable Donald Ethell.

The Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations, the Honourable Iris Evans, then hosted Ambassador Bahah to a wonderful luncheon. Minister Evans has served in numerous ministerial positions during her eminent and lengthy political career. Other notable luncheon guests included members of the Alberta Government Group; prominent community leaders from business and the Universities of Calgary and Alberta, as well as the Chairman of the Muslim Community. His Excellency found the ensuing discussions to be extremely worthwhile encompassing a wealth of topical diversity.

Following lunch, our Ambassador was given a fascinating VIP tour of the Legislature Building. Built in 1907, it remains a magnificent example of the Beaux Arts style, a structural gem of which the Province is very proud.

The highly successful visit concluded with an important meeting with the Parliamentary Assistant for Energy, Mrs. Diana McQueen. This provided a valuable augmentation to his prior private meeting with the Minister of Energy, the Honourable Ron Liepert during the Global Petroleum Show in Calgary.
