Among the more than 1400 Parliamentarians and observers attending the 127th IPU Assembly in Quebec City was Yemen’s Parliamentary Speaker, HE Yahya Ali al Raei.  In his speech, he noted that Yemen was one of several participating countries that had undergone massive political transition in the past year.  He provided a brief synopsis of the positive developments in Yemen as well as the continuing acts of terrorism that persist.  In this regard, he made it clear to the international community that their assistance is vital in order to ultimately defeat such activity.

He also made reference to the continuing flow of refugees from the Horn of Africa which continues to place an economic burden on the country and impedes the development, security and stability of Yemen.

In his discussion of Palestine, he stressed that the only route to a meaningful and lasting peace is through ultimate adherence to resolutions of international legitimacy and fairness.

In conclusion, he emphasized the importance of global enlightenment that access to freedom, peace, solidarity and friendship must be recognized as the right of all humanity.
